Guar Market Report as on August 2, 2004

Good news!! The rains are finally here!!

Heavy showers continue to lash several parts of Gujarat and rain or thundershowers have been registered at many places in east Rajasthan. After a lull of one month, most parts of Rajasthan have now received rainfall. The Meteorological Department has predicted further rains in the region of Kutch, North and South Gujarat and isolated rains in Rajasthan. Of course, as a result of this, price of Guar Dehusked Splits (DHS) has come down by around US$ 150 PMT, since our last guar market report, and currently stands at around US$ 850 PMT.

Provided the guar growing areas receive the 2nd and 3rd spell of rains at regular intervals, we should have a good crop this year too. Please note that due to the delay in the rains, there will be a delay in the arrival of the new crop into the market. The new crop which normally comes into the market during end October / 1st half November, will now come into the market by end November / 1st half December. As of now, we feel that with the progress of the monsoon, the guar prices will go down further, but we cannot say how much as forward trading / speculative trading of guar seeds as well as guar dehusked splits has become legal since the month of July. What effect this will have on the markets is yet to be seen. We advise our customers to cover their immediate requirements and follow the market closely till end August before placing further orders.
