Guar Market Report as on July 23, 2004

As informed to you in our last market report dated 29th June, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) was expecting the monsoon system, which had gone into a lull phase in the last week of June, to revive in the first week of July. However as per the latest figures, the country stands deficient in rains this monsoon season by 12%.

There are still no significant rains in the guar growing areas of Kutch, Gujarat and Rajasthan. As a result of this prices for Guar Dehusked Splits (DHS) shot up by around US$ 315 PMT, since the time of our last guar market report, to around US$ 1050 PMT on 20th July! Since then there has been an improvement in the sentiment in the guar growing areas and according to farmers and/or locals in these areas, some rains are expected in the near future. Hence prices have eased and today's price for DHS is around US$ 1000 PMT.

At this juncture, we advise our customers to cover their immediate requirements for the next couple of months and then wait until mid August or so before placing further orders.
