LBG supply report

6thApril 2005

The LBG supply situation is tight again. This appears to be a regular 10 year cycle! Opinion in the industry is that most suppliers can supply at short notice if the volumes are not too large. However prices are high because the raw material was bought at a high price.

What about the next crop? Valencia and North Morocco have been affected by cold weather and they are major producing regions so any crop loss here could well have an affect on global pricing. However the impact of cold weather on the next crop cannot be fully evaluated at this time and a poor crop is by no means certain. The only definite statement that we can say is that its too early to assess the overall crop... if you consider that a definite statement! Italy and Portugal seem less affected by the poor weather conditions. We will endevour to bring you more up to date information as it becomes available.
